Funeral services to Celebrate the Life of Jeremy J. “Coach Red” Scannell, 28, a resident of LeClaire will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 17th, 2009 in the All Faith Chapel of the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, LeClaire, Iowa. Honoring Jeremy’s wishes the family will greet friends from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, so as not to miss the Spartans football game. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jeremy’s name for a memorial to be established at a later date. Jeremy died Monday, October 12th at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Jeremy James Scannell was born November 17, 1980 in Davenport to Robert and Rita (Jones) Scannell.
Jeremy was a graduate of Pleasant Valley High School and received his coaching certificate from Kirkwood Community College. He was involved with Pleasant Valley sports for numerous years. He was employed at the LeClaire McDonalds and was a member of the LeClaire Civic Club. Jeremy’s dreams revolved around coaching football, whether it was the 7th grade team or the varsity. He was a volunteer with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and was awarded the Tommy Austin Award for his efforts. Jeremy was granted his wish to meet Michael Jordan in 1995. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his loving parents, Bob and Rita Scannell, LeClaire; his sisters Lori (Jeff) Mueller, Bettendorf, Kristi (Rod) Johnson, Eldridge, and Wendi Tarbell, Traverse City, Michigan; his brother Bob (Shelley) Scannell, Bettendorf; nieces and nephews, Rachel, Josh, Madison, Andrew, Josh, Emili, Kaili, Joanna, Cody, Ethan, Samantha and Alex; his aunt Donna Self of California and his faithful dog, Caesar. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his aunt, Betty Rossmiller, his uncle, Larry Scannell and his godfather, Tom Rossmiller. The family wishes to express their gratitude to, Dr. Ammash, Sara Trotter, 4C Francis, all the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, his primary physician, Dr. Walczyk and the Q-C Kidney Center for all of the loving care and support they have given Jeremy over the years.
