Joseph Gabriel “Gabe” Garnica, 80, a resident of Davenport, died October 17, 2009 peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Downtown Davenport. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. The American Legion Post 26 will conduct graveside military rites. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Halligan – McCabe – DeVries Funeral Home..
He married Wanda Lee Brink in 1999 in Rock Island, IL.
Mr. Garnica was proud of his service in the US Navy. He was assigned to the USS Shangri-La where he served for four years. Following his tour in the Navy, he worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for the next 37 years.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda, eight children, and eight stepchildren all of Quincy, IL. 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, and 2 expecting. He is also survived by one sister Rosie Ramirez and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes any memorials go to St. Anthony’s Church Building Fund or to Trinity Pathway Hospice.
