| | | Funeral Services for Joel E. Hill, 76, of Davenport will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 23, 2009, at Grandview Baptist Church, 4316 N. Ripley St. Davenport. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday one hour prior to service time. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post # 26.
Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Hill died Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Davenport Lutheran Home after a brief illness.
Joel Edward Hill was born September 7, 1933, in Johnston County, North Carolina, the son of John W. and Lula (Jernigan) Hill.
Joel served his country in the Army. He was united in marriage to Eileen M. Sohn, on December 10, 1954 in Chicago. Joel was a member of Grandview Baptist Church. He retired from International Harvester (Farmall Works), Rock Island.

Survivors include his wife Eileen, daughters Martha (Paul) Lord, Owasso, OK, Grace Hill, Chicago and Joeleah (Thomas) Tighe, Wilton Manor, FL; sons Edward (Kathy) Hill, Franklin, NC and Paul (Karen) Hill, Springsboro, OH; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; a sister Sarah Strength, Tallassee, Al, and a brother Thomas Hill, Smithfield, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
