Memorial Services to celebrate the life of Clementine Assunta Erminia Mendell, 80, a resident of Davenport and formerly a longtime resident of Newton, Iowa, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2009, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3601 Speedway Dr., Newton, IA. Burial will follow the funeral service at Newton Union Cemetery, Newton, IA. The family will greet friends prior to the memorial service on Friday at Kingdom Hall.
Clementine died Saturday, October 24, at the Kahl Home for the Aged, Davenport.
Clementine A.E. Morrone was born August 15, 1929 in Detroit, MI. the daughter of Frank and Margherita (De Maria) Morrone. She was united in marriage to Eugene Richard Mendell on January 21, 1950 in Detroit, MI. He preceded her in death in May of 1997.
Clementine retired after 30 years as a Tupperware representative in the Newton area. She had also co-owned Mendell Bakery in Newton with her husband Eugene.
Clementine was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Newton, IA., Pythian Sisters and was a former girl scout leader.
Memorials may be made to the Kahl Home for the Aged.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam Portland (Mike), Davenport, a son Perry Mendell (Terry), Pella, IA; grandchildren, Lisa Marie Mendell, Scott Mendell, and Margret Proper; a sister, Eugenia Lubahn, Columbia, MO., and a brother Joe Morrone, Detroit.
Clementine was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, a sister Anna Lacharite and a brother Alfred Morrone.
Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
