Funeral services for Helen L. England, 75, a resident of Davenport, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Gorin Cemetery, Gorin, MO. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a memorial for her customers at Helen's Place, 831 W. 3rd Street, Davenport on Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. Helen passed away, Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Helen Louise Anders was born on October 18, 1934 in Unionville, MO, a daughter of David and Sylvia (Ralls) Anders. Helen had been the owner and operator of Helen's Place in Davenport. She opened up in 1992. Helen was a very giving person, serving Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to the homeless every year. She was always caring for someone, whether it was taking in someone less fortunate or being a mother to foster children, she had a heart of gold.
In her free time she enjoyed going to the boat and watching lifetime movies. In her younger years, she loved to fish. She took early trips to Vegas by train with her friend, Wanda Heims.
Memorials may be made to Fr. Conroy's Vineyard.
Helen is survived by her children and their spouses, David (Kathy) Wentworth, Deborah (Keith) Walker, all of Davenport, Eddie Ray "Boko" Petersen, Jr, Thomas Camp "Tucker" Petersen, both of Texas, and Michael Petersen, Davenport; seven grandchildren including Matthew Rowe, 7 great granchildren; a sister, Marie Misner-Armstrong, Texas; many foster children whom she raised including: Fallon Sisco of Davenport; her niece and right arm, Sandi (Gary) York, Davenport; and her good friend, Wanda (Ray) Heims, many other nieces and nephews, and her canine companion, Toby.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Teresa Jo "Terri" Petersen, a brother, David "Bud" Anders, Jr., a sister, Mary McQuillen, and her sister and best friend, Bertie Heinze.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the c.n.a.'s , nurses and staff at Genesis East and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the care they showed Helen. They would also like to thank Dr. Ahluwaia, Dr. Dippel, and Dr. Dyer for their care as well.
