Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice. Don passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus.
Don was born in Davenport, Iowa on August 19, 1927, a son of Gustav and Marie (Saurburg) Goldermann. Don attended St. Alphonsus School and graduated from Davenport High School in 1944. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II from 1944 until 1946, serving primarily in Japan.
Don was united in marriage to Phyllis Heskett on August 1, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa. They have shared over 62 years of marriage together, and raised five children.
He worked at J. I. Case for 35 years, retiring in 1982. Don served as the second Mayor of Panorama Park in the early 1950’s. Upon retirement, Don and Phyllis moved to Minnesota and enjoyed taking care of their acreage. During retirement, Don also enjoyed woodworking, metal detecting, and coin collecting.
Don lived life to the fullest and cherished spending time with family and friends and telling stories. He was a true outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed working in the garden, fishing, and feeding the birds. He leaves us a legacy of laughter, warmth, and wonderful memories.
Don is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughters, Pam (Daryl) Ahrens, Davenport, Judy (Marty Martinez) Aronson, Colorado, Becky (Ed) Kolleng, West Dundee, IL; sons, Dan Goldermann, Underwood, MN, and Gary (Kay Quain) Goldermann, Boulder, CO; a brother and sister-in-law, Russell (Delores) Goldermann, Davenport; a sister, Shirley Ehlers, Davenport; nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces; and his constant companion, his dog, Casey. All will miss him deeply.
