| | | Mr. Hulen Faulkner, age 89 of Memphis, formerly of Manila, died Sunday at Kirby Pines Estates in Memphis. Born at Beach Grove, he was the son of the late E.W. and Alice Batey Faulkner and had lived most of his life in Manila. He was a graduate of Arbyrd High School and the Draughon's Business College in Memphis. At age 19 Mr. Faulkner became manager of the Bertig Cotton Gin and later managed Caudill Brother's and Fleeman gin companies. He retired as Vice-President of the former Merchant's and Planter's Bank in Manila. He was active in scouting, having served as Scout Master for Explorer Scouts. Hulen served under General George Patton's 3rd Army, 11th Armored Division during WWII and received campaign medals for action in the Battle of the Bulge, The Rhineland and Central Europe. His major duty was with the reconnaissance patrol unit. He was a 32nd Degree Mason having served as Master of the Manila Masonic Lodge for many years. He was a member and Deacon of Manila First Baptist Church and served as a men's Sunday school teacher, church treasurer and trustee.His favorite pastimes were spending time with his grandchildren , fishing, gardening, National Geographic and travel. Funeral services will be 2PM Tuesday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Manila with Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial will follow in Manila Cemetery. The family will receive visitors Monday evening from 6 until 8 Pm at the funeral home.
