| | | OXFORD, CT: John Barnes age 87 of Oxford, formerly of Stamford entered into peaceful rest November 11th at the Griffin Hospital, Derby. Mr. Barnes was born September 21, 1920 in Greenwich, son of the late Teofil and Rose Banevicz. Mr. Barnes was a WW II U.S. Navy Veteran; he served aboard the USS Wainwright. John was a carpenter by trade, and was a builder both in Stamford, and Oxford. He served on the Town of Oxford’s Inland -Wetlands Commission, and several other local boards related to the building trade.
Mr. Barnes leaves his loving family including a daughter, Judy Monte and her husband Nick of Arlington, VT, a son, John R. Barnes and his partner Michael Zack of Stratford, and a daughter, Victoria Duarte of Ashburn, VA, four grandchildren, Denise, Sherry, and Kenneth Monte of Arlington, VT, and Michael Duarte of Ashburn, VA, and a brother, Frank Banevicz of Arlington, VA. His sister Anna Gee predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 733 Oxford Road, Oxford. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Southford Cemetery. Family and friends may call also on Thursday prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. in the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Oxford Senior Center, or to Habitat for Humanity through the funeral home.
