Beacon Falls, Ct. U. Sherman Avery, Jr., 84 of Beacon Falls entered into peaceful rest April 24th in Derby. He was the beloved husband of Irene (Gagnon) Avery. Sherman was born January 7, 1923 in Astoria, NY son of the late U. Sherman Avey, Sr. and Viola (Watrous) Avery. Sherman was a WWII veteran of the US Army 742d Air Material Squadron. He was a machine operator for several companies in the valley retiring from Solomon Tool and Dye. He was a resident of Beacon Falls for fifty two years and a member of the Beacon Falls Congregational Church. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans. Sherman enjoyed fishing and was musically inclined playing the bugle, accordion and the organ.

Besides his wife, he leaves his loving family daughter, Diane S. Avery and son, Russell S. Avery of Shelton. Sister, Idella Mann of Seymour. Grandson, Shawn R. Avery and great granddaughter, Kayla M. Avery.

Funeral Services will be held Friday at 10:00am from the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church St. Seymour. Burial with Military Honors will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday form 5:00 to 8:00pm. Memorial gifts may be sent to West Haven Veterans Hospital, 950 Campbell Ave. West Haven, Ct 06516.
