| | | Mildred Snyder, age 95, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida formerly of Washington died Friday July 3, 2009 at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida following a brief illness.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:00 am Tuesday July 15, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington with Father Paul Appel officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm Monday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Prayer services will be held at 7:00 pm Monday evening. There will also be visitation with the family present from 9:00 am to 10:00 am Tuesday morning at St. James Church. Interment will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Richmond. Memorials may be directed to St. James Church. Online condolences may be sent for Mildred’s through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
Mildred was born on November 27, 1913 in Washington, Iowa the daughter of Carl and Helen (Pieper) Emde. Mildred was a homemaker and worked in retail sales. She was a life long resident of the Kalona and Washington communities. In 2002, she moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area to be near her daughter and family. “Nanny,” as she was fondly known as by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, reminded everyone, that everything was better in Iowa.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Morrall and husband Earl of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; her son, Douglas Whitehead and wife Mary of Salem, South Carolina; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ray Whitehead, father of Jane and Doug in 1953; husband Charles Snyder, a long time Washington County Sheriff in 1993; and one grandson, John Whitehead in 1984.
