| | | Geraldine Margaret Schulty, age 96, of Washington, Iowa died Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at the United Presbyterian Home following a brief illness. .
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 8:30 am Saturday, July 11, 2009 at St. James Church in Washington with Fr. Paul Appel officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Friday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 Friday evening. Prayer services will be held 6:00 pm Friday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Wellman Cemetery in Wellman, Iowa. Memorials have been established for St. James Catholic Church. Geraldine was born July 27, 1912 in Pilotburg, Iowa the daughter of Orville Paul and Mary Henrietta (Patterson) Schulty. She graduated from Wellman High School and attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa.
Geraldine taught three years in rural schools before becoming a bank teller at the National Bank of Washington. She worked at the National Bank for 30 years until her retirement in 1977. Geraldine was also the bookkeeper at Richard George Salon for many years.
She is a member of St. James Catholic Church, Toastmasters, the Business and Professional Women, Catholic Daughters of America and the Altar and Rosary Society. She previously served on the board of the Washington Community Y and the American Cancer Society. Geraldine received the HACAP Volunteer Award for Washington County, the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award for area ten, Outstanding Toastmaster award and several contest awards.
She is the last of her immediate family.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, her step mother Islea Schulty, and one brother Donald Schulty.
