| | | Hazel Sybil Hofer, age 91, of Washington, Iowa died Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the United Presbyterian Home following a decline in health.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 am Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Benkelman, Nebraska. Graveside services will follow the visitation at the Benkelman Cemetery with Pastor Chris Farmer officiating. The Jones Eden Funeral Home of Washington, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Washington Community Y. Hazel was born April 22, 1918 in Haigler, Nebraska the daughter of William and Christie Anne (Pennelle) Stute. She graduated from high school in Nebraska. On January 7, 1939 Hazel was united in marriage to Harry Hofer. He preceded her in death on March 12, 1994.
Hazel was a homemaker having lived in Sidney, Nebraska; Hanover, Illinois and Washington, Iowa. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church.
She is survived by three children including her daughter Joan Westcott and husband Wayne of Harrisburg, Missouri; son Rick Hofer and wife Phyllis of Washington, Iowa; and son Don Hofer and wife Jeanne of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren as well as three sisters: Stella Bash of Lincoln, Nebraska; Luella Whaley of Aurora, Nebraska; and Goldie Gordon and husband Kenneth of Riverside, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1994, one infant son, one infant brother, two brothers – Orval and Marlin Stute and one sister Valetta Stute.
