| | | Mary Elisabeth “Betty” Lance, age 86, of Washington died Saturday July 18, 2009 at Halcyon House in Washington following a brief illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday July 21, 2009 at the
Jones-Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Visitation will begin 12:00 pm Monday at the Jones-Eden Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established to the United Methodist Church in Washington or to Hospice of Washington County. Betty was born on August 6, 1922 in West Chester, Iowa the daughter of George and Bertha (Guy) Statler. She graduated from West Chester High School. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Dale Lance on October 14, 1940 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Betty was a homemaker who helped her husband in their farming operation. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Washington. Betty was a 4-H leader in her earlier years. She enjoyed sewing, flower gardening, day to day activities at Halcyon House, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by four daughters, Carol (Pete) Bell of Washington, Iowa; Judy (Ty) Nelson of Burley Idaho; Alice (Don) Cordts of Davenport, Iowa; and Connie (Mike) Mineart of Walford, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren;2 great great granddaughter; 2 sisters-in-law, Mildred Statler of West Chester, Iowa; Lillian Statler of Washington, Iowa; and 1 brother-in-law, Walter Lance of Washington, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in July of 2008; 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
