| | | Richard F. "Rich" Neff, age 66, of Washington died Thursday July 30, 2009 at his home in Washington surrounded by family and friends following an extended illness.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 am Monday August 2, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church in Washington. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am Sunday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Prayer services will be held at 8:00 pm Sunday. Memorials may be directed to St. James Church, Hospice of Washington County, or to Cottonwood Cemetery for a fence project. Rich was born on October 31, 1942 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa the son of Gerald and Mary J. (Stalder) Neff. He attended Franklin School in rural Washington County and graduated from Wayland High School. On July 23, 1982 Rich was united in marriage to Joy Williamson in Washington. He worked most of his life for GTE and the Blackbox Network at the University of Iowa as a telecommunications technician retiring in 2008. Rich was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. In his earlier years he played in a rock & roll band.
Rich is survived by his wife, Joy Neff of Washington; his children, Gerald Neff and wife Brenda of Washington; Jay Neff of Brighton; Lisa Neff-Letts and husband Roger of Washington; Jenny Mason and husband Rodney of Los Angeles, California; Mike Williamson of Washington; Holly Fahy and husband Tim of Longmont, Colorado; Scott Neff and wife Tracie of Crystal, Minnesota; Tim Williamson and wife Sarah of Iowa City; fifteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; and his brother, Larry Neff and wife Barb of Lockridge; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
