| | | Maurine Mills, age 99, of Clear Lake, IA, formerly of Washington, IA, died Tuesday September 15, 2009, at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake following a decline in health.
Celebration of life services will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. The family will receive friends during a time of food and fellowship at the United Methodist Church following the committal service. Maurine was born on May 11, 1910, in Salem, Iowa, the daughter of Edgar H. and Anna Jane (Bell) Matthews. She graduated from Salem High School. On April 25, 1936 Maurine was united in marriage to Gilbert A. Mills in Salem, Iowa. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was, always, her first priority. Maurine was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, YWCA, TTT, and PTA. Her hobbies and interests included: sewing; crocheting; playing cards; and reading. She lived in Washington for 69 years before moving to Mason City to be closer to family for the past 4 years.
Maurine is survived by her husband, Gilbert A. Mills of Mason City, Iowa; two daughters, Beverly Elefson and her husband Dick of Lake Ozark, Missouri; Darlene Crabb and her husband Nelson of Clear Lake, Iowa. Her grandchildren are: Steve Elefson; Susan Moriarty (John); Brad Elefson (Chris); Amy Doyle (Wes); Tina Martin (Chris); Andy Crabb (Shawna); and Katie Thedos (Shawn). In addition, her twelve great-grandchildren are: Kelsey; Makenzie; Kyle; Sarah; Shaelyn; Stephanie; Drew; Katelyn; Makenna; Sophia; Carter; and Alexa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold and Wilbur Matthews; and her sisters, Lucille Matthews; Annabell Hite; and Doris Nordyke.
