| | | Ivan Verland Jarvis, age 94, of Washington died Tuesday September 22, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 pm Friday September 25, 2009 at the
Jones - Eden Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Julie Poulsen officiating. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm Friday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A memorial has been established to the Central Park Fountain Maintenance Fund. Online condolences may be sent for Ivan’s family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
Ivan was born on August 9, 1915 in Crawfordsville, Iowa the son of Fred and Leafa (Lease) Jarvis. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. On April 22, 1964 Ivan was united in marriage to Louise Belle Thompson in Fairfield, Iowa. He was previously married to Betty Evans. Ivan farmed southeast of Washington all of his life. He was one of the developers of the Lake Trio Housing Development. Ivan enjoyed fishing; gardening, taking care of his flowers, and was an animal lover. He was a kind and generous man.
Ivan is survived by two step sons, Frank Thompson and wife Margaret of Burke, Virginia; John Thompson of Plano, Texas; several step grandchildren; two sisters, Leila Lintz of Crawfordsville; and Barb Gatton and husband Kenneth of What Cheer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise in 1982; one brother, Norman Jarvis; and one sister Betty Jarvis.
