| | | Betty L. Chance, age 78, of Washington died Saturday September 26, 2009 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday September 30, 2009 at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home with Pastor Don Collings officiating. Visitation will begin 12:00 pm Tuesday at the Jones - Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Tuesday evening. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. Memorials have been established to Paws and More Animal Shelter or to a general memorial. Betty was born on September 24, 1931 in Columbus City, Iowa to Clayton M. and Clara Ellen (Sesler) Richardson. She was united in married to Kenneth T. Chance, Sr. on July 17, 1954 in Kahoka, Missouri. She lived on a farm near Wellman before moving to Washington. Betty was a homemaker in her earlier years. After raising her family she worked with her husband in farming. Betty also worked with the elderly in the community. She enjoyed gardening, going to Lending Hands, fishing, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her six children, Sally Williams and husband John N. of Washington; Susan Lowe and husband Clarence of Washington; Nancy Zachmeyer and husband George of Mt. Pleasant; Mike Chance of Washington; Alan Chance and wife Margaret of Indiana; Kenny Chance and wife Melissa of Indiana; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 8 step – great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Barb Bland of Wilton; Lea Hartman of Wapello; 1 brother, Ted Richardson of West Liberty; and 2 step sisters, Eileen McKean of Douds; and Romelle Dallmeyer of Columbus Junction.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1990, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 step grandson.
