| | | Rosemary Scully Elliott, age 81, of Washington, Iowa died Sunday October 4, 2009 at the Washington County Hospital following a brief illness.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Appel officiating. Visitation will begin noon Tuesday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday. There will be a Rosary recited by the Catholic Daughters at 5:15 pm Tuesday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with prayer services to be held at 7:30 pm . Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for St. James Catholic Church or the Washington County Hospital. Rosemary was born September 5, 1928 in Henry County, Iowa the daughter of William Thomas and Cecilia Eleanor (Cornick) Scully. She grew up in Henry County and lived there until moving to Burlington where she graduated from St. Paul’s High School. She was united in marriage to John Edwin Elliott on September 30, 1951 in West Burlington, Iowa.
Rosemary has lived in Washington since 1963. She worked at Winga’s Café and previously worked at Atomic Energy Company and the National Bank of Burlington. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, St. Rita’s Circle, and Fortnightly Antiques and Collectibles. Rosemary was a proud member of the Democratic Party and served as Secretary and Treasurer for the Washington County Democrats for many years.
She is survived by four children: son John E. Elliott of West Des Moines, Iowa; daughter Lynette M. Elliott of Fairfield, Iowa; son Tim M. Elliott and wife Patty of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter Elizabeth Elliott and partner Michelle Westbrook of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; five grandchildren; A.J. Elliott and wife Billy of Richland, Iowa; Johannah Elliott of Ainsworth, Iowa; Megan Beenblossom of Ainsworth, Iowa; Mitchell Elliott of Ainsworth, Iowa and Kyle Elliott of Fairfield, Iowa; and three great grandchildren Zayden, Xavier, and Oakley Elliott. She is also survived by one sister Virginia Peek of Santa Maria, California; and two brothers Ted Scully of Des Moines, Iowa; and Dan Scully of Lincoln, Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1981, three brothers William, Jimmy and John Scully, and two sisters JoAnn Beemblossom and Therese Grothe.
