| | | Donald C. Simmering, age 90, of Washington, Iowa formerly of Ainsworth, died Sunday October 18, 2009 at the Washington County Hospital following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday October 21, 2009 at the Jones Eden Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Visitation will begin 9:00 am Wednesday at the Jones Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 9:00 – 11:00 Wednesday morning. Interment will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for the United Presbyterian Home. Don was born March 9, 1919 in Washington County, Iowa the son of John Henry and Albertina Augusta (Zieglowsky) Simmering. He attended country school in Washington County. On July 4, 1939 Don was united in marriage to Edith Corrine Miller in Washington, Iowa.
Don was a life resident of Washington County having farmed all of his life in the Ainsworth area. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, a long time member of Farm Bureau and the APHA (American Paint Horse Association). He enjoyed hunting, fishing and discussing politics. He was an active member of the Democratic Party and enjoyed hosting political events. Don was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
He is survived by his wife Edith Simmering of Washington, Iowa; son Ron Simmering and wife Terri of Bettendorf, Iowa; son Ed Simmering of Ainsworth, Iowa; son Don Simmering and wife Cindy of Ainsworth, Iowa; daughter-in-law Jan Simmering of Branson, Missouri; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Viola Hoyle of Orange, California and one brother John Simmering Jr. and wife Roseann of Washington, Iowa
Don was preceded in death by his parents, one son Larry Simmering, one sister Clara Sheetz and one brother Ervin Simmering.
