Burial Vaults and Grave Liners - A Consumer's Guide
Burial vaults and grave liners are also commonly known as outer burial containers. The vault or grave liner is delivered and installed for burial. Following committal services the casket is lowered into the burial vault or grave liner.
When an outer burial container is identified by using the term VAULT it is significant that it has a protective sealing quality.
Burial vaults surround the casket in concrete which provides strength to support the weight of the earth above and utilize an interior liner that protects the contents of the vault from graveside elements. These interior liners are made out of imperious materials like plastics and even semi-precious metals such as stainless steel, copper and bronze. Burial vaults may be sold with a warranty of protective strength.
Not every burial vault has the same strength or protective quality.
A grave liner is made of concrete and will satisfy any cemetery requirement. A grave liner provides strength with no sealing qualities.
Many cemeteries require some type of outer burial container to prevent the grave from sinking in the future.
