Harold Gordon Swinton, 91, of Waterloo, died Thursday, December 18, 2008 of natural causes. He was born August 16, 1917 in Cannon Falls, MN the son of Fred B. and Hattie Knutson Swinton. He married Bernice C. Herting on January 27, 1945 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo.

He had worked at Construction Machinery Company for 42 years as a Tool and Die Maker, retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church.

Survived by: his wife Bernice of Waterloo; two sons, Dean (Juliet) Swinton of Waterloo, Duane (Jan) Swinton of Spokane, WA; one daughter, Jacelyn “Jackie” Swinton of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Brandon of Chicago, Nathan of Memphis, TN, Jennifer of Dallas, TX, Nisha of South Royalton, VT; five brothers, Donald (Dorothy), Herbert and Vernon (Donna) Swinton of Waverly, Maurice (Alice) Swinton of Dixon, IL, Roger (Marlys) Swinton of Shell Rock; four sisters, Doris White of Emmetsburg, Helen Mae (Harley) Ascher of Greene, Alfreeda (Ronald) Albaugh of Springfield, MO and Lois Jean Brodt of Waverly.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Willard and Dale Swinton and two sisters, Mildred Schultz and Wilma Braend.

Mass of Christian Burial: will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2008 at St. Edward Catholic Church with burial in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Kearns, Huisman – Schumacher Chapel on Kimball with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Service. Visitation will also be held one hour before the service at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
