|Loren Hans Dunkelberger, 84, of La Porte City, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at his home on the family farm, where he had lived the last five years. He was born April 15, 1924 in rural La Porte City the son of Ellery and Anna Mengel Dunkelberger. He married Virginia Nichols on February 25, 1947 in Washburn; she preceded him in death on April 21, 2005.
He farmed his entire life in the La Porte City area. He worked winters for Jefferies Implement, Meyer Auto Repair and Bunz Implement. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church where he served many years as a Trustee.
Survived by: two sons, Dan (Marilyn) of Jesup, Dick (Holly) of La Porte City; two daughters, Vicki (Richard) Vose of Dog Island, FL, Peggy (Edmund) Rodriguez of Newnan, GA; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Illa Fourn of Monroe, MI and Thelma (Merle) Horak of Brandon.
Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife; three grandsons, Daniel, David and Luke Dunkelberger and two sisters, Hazel Montgomery and Leona Hackett.
Services: will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at La Porte City Funeral Service with burial in the West View Cemetery. The casket will be closed. A private family visitation will be held at the funeral home.
Memorials: may be directed to the Black Hawk County Child Evangelism Fellowship.
