Evelyn J. (Mrs. Herbert) Lehman, 86, Davenport, formerly of Waterloo/Cedar Falls, went Home to be with the Lord, Saturday morning, July 11, 2009 from Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Mrs. Lehman was born Evelyn May Jacobsen, August 15, 1922, near Cedar Falls, the daughter of Alfred H. and Lillian May (Glouse) Jacobsen. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1940. Evelyn married Herbert W. Lehman, May 3, 1941 in Cedar Falls. They were blessed with 54 years of marriage in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area and enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas, for over twenty years. Herb preceded Evelyn in death May 30, 1995.
Evelyn and Herb were charter members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls. Evelyn most enjoyed her family time and her relationship with the Lord. She also loved singing, dancing and music in general. Bible studies and mission trips were also an important part of Evelyn's life.
Surviving are her children, Sandra Goben and her husband Don, Hollister, Missouri; Barbara Paul and her husband, Darrell, Davenport; and Laverne Lehman and special friend, Jill Nicholson, Fairbank; grandchildren, Dave (Dianne), Mark (Terry) and Doug Goben, Kim (Denny) Shannon, Linda (Rich) Pearce, Jason (Deb), Justin (Amy), Jeff (Jen) and Josh (Beth) Paul and Lance and Jacob Lehman; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia (Al) Tjebkes, Waterloo; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Larry, and a sister, Margaret Jungling.
The family will receive friends at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls, from 4:00 until 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2009. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. Lawrence Stumme officiating. Burial will be at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Memorials may be designated to Genesis Hospice, Davenport, or St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.
