| | | Leonard James “Buzz” Umscheid, age 69, of Omaha, Nebraska and formerly of Waterloo and Grundy Center, died Saturday, July 25, 20009 due to complications of MRSA infection enroute to Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, where he wanted to be in hospice care.
Leonard was born on September 21, 1939 in Omaha, NE, the son of Arthur G. and Mary E. (Flynn) Umscheid. He made a profession of faith in December of 1979. Leonard was united in marriage with Pam J. Bower on August 7, 1982 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union came James B. and John E. and by adoption, Patty J. (Bower) Stubblefield. In a previous marriage, Leonard had three children, Donna, Bob and Leah.
He was a veteran of the US Navy and had been ailing since 2004 when he had to retire from American Security.
Leonard was a loving husband and a wonderful father. Even though there was a difference in their ages, he and Pam loved each other dearly. He will be deeply missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Pam of Omaha; three daughters, Donna (Kevin) Hirsch, Leah (Andy) Newman and Patty (Steve) Stubblefield; three sons, Bob, James and John and a number of grandchildren; a sister, Margie (Bill) Wade of Oklahoma City, OK and his father-in-law, Gerald Bower of Grundy Center, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law, Janice Bower.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2009 at First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. Burial with full military honors will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Grundy Center. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the Church. The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo is in charge of arrangements.
