Gilbert R. Sarauer, age 88, of Evansdale, Iowa died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Bartels Lutheran Home in Waverly, Iowa.
He was born January 6, 1921 in the township of Auburn, county of Chippewa Falls, WI, the son of Richard and Emma (Boos) Sarauer. He attended school in Cooks Valley, WI. He married Elaine Ida Hurd on October 16, 1948 in Clinton, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1999.
The couple made their home in Evansdale, IA and Gilbert began working for John Deere and Co. on June 28, 1956 and retired July 1, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Roger Sarauer and Douglas Sarauer and one daughter, Yvonne (Stephen) Cavanaugh, all of Evansdale, IA; five grandchildren, Je’taime (Andy) Miller, Luke (Leslie) Sarauer, Joshua Cavanaugh, Jeremiah Cavanaugh, and Morgan Kidder; four great grandchildren, Linkin Sarauer, Derek, McKayla and Samantha Miller; three sisters, Eileen Swoboda of Chippewa Falls, WI, Janice (Bill) Bischel of Bloomer, WI and Gloria (Bernie) Schindler of Colfax, WI; two sisters-in-law, Betty Sarauer of Bloomer, WI and Hazel Resong of Racine, WI; and a brother-in-law, Gilbert Schindler of Chippewa Falls, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, John and Alma (Blake) Hurd; his wife Elaine; one brother, Harold Sarauer; one sister, Eunice Schindler; six brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law including Charles Swoboda, William and Katie Hurd, Joe and Rosemary Hurd, Leroy and Peggy Isley; Helen (Nels) Harel, Lucille Vance and Pearl (Howard) Norris.
Private Family Services will be held Saturday, August 15, 2009 with inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo, IA. There will be no visitation. The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo is in charge of arrangements.
