| | | Ralph E. “Butch” Simmons, 69, of Waterloo died Sunday, Aug 23, at Allen Memorial Hospital.
He was born February 29, 1940, in Waterloo, the son of Wilbur and Mildred Pafford Simmons. He married Mary S. Sanders on October 9, 1959 in Waterloo.
Butch attended West High School in Waterloo. He worked for the Illinois-Central Railroad as a switchman for 14 years and then owned and operated Butch’s Body Shop for 9 years before health issues forced him into retirement.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Brian D. and Keith E. of Waterloo; one daughter, Terri Cubitt of Harrisburg, PA; four brothers, Donald (Karen), Lloyd (Karen), Wayne (Penny) and Gary all of Waterloo; one sister, Veda (Ed) Hawkens of Waterlo; and 3 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Zola Walker; and a brother; Johnny Simmons.
Ralph enjoyed playing softball, fishing, and bowling. In later years he became an avid golfer. He collapsed on the golf course doing what he had come to love.
Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, Aug 28, at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball with burial in the Garden Of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday and an hour before services Friday.
