Hazel M. Holthaus, 84, of Waterloo died Friday afternoon at Allen Memorial Hospital.

She was born December 12, 1924 in Delaware, the daughter of Carl Wilhelm and Marie Esther Smith Larson. She graduated from Delhi High School in 1942. She married John C. Holthaus on July 27, 1946 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2000.

Hazel worked at Powers Manufacturing in the Athletic Wear Dept, Rath Packing Company and Paramount Drug. She and her husband moved to Houston, TX in 1962 and then to Temple City, CA in 1965. In 1998 they moved back to Waterloo.

She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #128, the United Methodist Women and the Church Women United.

Survivors include her son; Bruce K. Holthaus of Glendora, CA. 1 sister; Arlene Sheehy of Waterloo, special cousin; Florence (Jerome) Curtis of Waterloo, a good friend; Anna Everding of Denver, and 1 grandson: Samuel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 2 brothers; Elwin E. and Gerald Larson.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, Sept 9, at the Kimball Ave United Methodist Church with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Those who wish may direct memorials to the Church, Friendship Village Foundation, or Cedar Valley Hospice.
