| | | Roy Allen Sweet, 84, of La Porte City, died Friday, September 11, 2009 at his home. He was born September 29, 1924 in La Porte City the son of Roy Daniel and Ethel Marion Palmer Sweet.
He attended Gates Business College and after graduating went to work on a farm. He was hired by Leo Arnett at International Harvester in La Porte City as a parts man and bookkeeper and remained there a number of years until Leo Arnett sold the business. He was hired by Harold Clark Chevrolet and worked as parts man and bookkeeper. He worked there until he went to work at La Porte City Furniture. In 1961 he bought out La Porte City Furniture with partner Jim Edsill and was owner for 47 years. His hobbies included gardening and reading.
Survived by: Robert Kerr and other nieces and nephews and many close and special friends.
Preceded in death by: his parents; three sisters, Faye Bunn, Thelma Kerr, Helen Lassen and a nephew, Bill Kerr.
Services: will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday, September 14, 2009 at La Porte City Funeral Service with burial in the West View Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Memorials: may be directed to the La Porte City Fire and Rescue.
