Leroy “Tom” Lawrence, age 68, of Evansdale, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

He was born July 5, 1941 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Leslie Harold and Margaret (Hillard) Lawrence. He was united in marriage with Barbara J. Lightfoot on May 1, 1966 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Tom was a supervisor at Hydraulic Research of Valencia, California and later worked as a truck driver. He was a US Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Evansdale; two daughters, Robin Lawrence and Karen (Josh) Pederson, all of Waterloo; three sons, Michael (Darla) Lawrence and Robert (Lindsey) Lawrence, all of Cedar Falls and Randy Lawrence of Evansdale; seven grandchildren, John Lawrence, Justin Lawrence, Kristopher Lawrence, Mitchell Jordan, Alyssa Lawrence, Brayden Pederson and Bryson Pederson, five brothers, Paul (Lorraine) Lawrence, Dwight (Delores) Lawrence, Ralph (Jeanette) Lawrence all of California, James Lawrence of Iowa, and Calvin (Jeanette) Lawrence; four sisters, Barbara (Charlie) Andrews of California, Shirley (James) Dancy of Montana, Delores (Allan) Baird of California and Lena Lawrence of Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Leslie and Cecil; and one sister, Beverly Davis.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball in Waterloo. Burial with full military honors will be in the Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
