| | | George Milfred Loy, 78, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Cedar Falls Health Care Center. He was born February 3, 1931 in Waterloo the son of Milfred and Blanche Brunk Loy. He married Joanne C. Wagner on September 24, 1953 in Waterloo, they were later divorced. He later married Maxine Volker in Preston, MN; she preceded him in death in December of 1990. He married Carol J. Sundt on September 30, 1995 in Waterloo.
He worked at Rath Packing Company for 34 years and then worked at Iowa Beef Processing (I.B.P.), retiring in 1993. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict, where he was awarded a purple heart. He was a member of the Evansdale AMVETS Post #31.
Survived by: his wife Carol, who was his angel caring for him, of Waterloo; two sons, Jerry Loy of Anamosa, Randy (Sherrie) Loy of Waterloo; three daughters, Deb (Mike) Abbott of Cedar Falls, Georjanne (Arthur) Akerson of Waterloo, Annette (Joe) DeMuth of Waterloo; three step daughters, Valerie (Tim) Hayes of Evansdale, Judith Anderson of Oklahoma, Susan (Pete) Clark of Waterloo; three step sons, James (Christy) White of San Diego, CA, Albert Sundt of Washburn, Larry (RaeAnn) Sundt of Mason City; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen step grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Betty) Loy of Waterloo, Paul (Fran) Loy of Denver, David (Judy) Loy of Waterloo; three sisters, Darlene Hospodarsky, Phyllis Bagby, Caroline (Mike) Mrzlak all of Waterloo and one half sister, Audrey.
Preceded in death by: his wife, Maxine.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church with burial in the Elmwood Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be accorded by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Visitation will be held Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball with a scripture service at 7 pm. Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
