Daniel E. Lawless, age 86, of Waterloo, died Friday, September 18, 2009 at his home.

He was born May 24, 1923 in Waterloo, the son of Ernest Eugene and Mabel E. O'Leary) Lawless. He was united in marriage with Betty J. McNelly on
January 24, 1942 in Waterloo. She preceded him in death on March 1, 1996.

Dan owned and operated Dan Lawless Trucking in Waterloo from 1947 until his retirement in 1985. Following retirement he worked for Casey's Auto Parts from 1989-2006. He was a World War II Army Veteran. Dan had a great work ethic and thoroughly enjoyed operating his business. He seldom took a day off from work. He liked to play cards and enjoyed visiting with old friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Fred)Hickman of Evansdale; three sons, Jim (Nancy) Lawless and Jeff (Pam) Lawless, all of Waterloo and Skeets(Mary) Lawless of Cumming, GA; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and
4 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Eunice Schuler of Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Pete,Jack and Ernest Lawless; three half brothers, Harold, Archie and Glen Whitney; three sisters, Betty, Mary and Nola and a half sister, BeulahWhitney.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 at Burton Avenue Baptist Church in Waterloo. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, with full military honors by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Friends may call from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2009 at Garden View Chapel and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
