| | | Melvin C. Knebel, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, September 21, 2009 at his daughter’s home. He was born August 13, 1920 in New Hampton, the son of Charles and Mary Dolmage Knebel. He married Patricia Beagles on October 21, 1950 in Waterloo.
He worked as a machinist for John Deere Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.
Survived by: his wife, Patricia of Waterloo; one son, David (Patti) Knebel of Cedar Falls; four daughters, Becky Werner of Evansdale, Kris Knebel of Cedar Falls, Nancy (Dan) Higgins of Evansdale, Kathy (Jim) Linkenmeyer of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Brooke (Mike), Brent, Brian, Kelsy, Luke, Dane, Abby, Tyler; one brother, Leo Knebel of Waterloo; one sister, Mary Smith of Sumner and one sister-in-law, Mary Knebel of Jesup.
Preceded in death by: his parents; six brothers, Ambrose, Elmo, Earl, Ralph, John and Paul Knebel and three sisters, Rita Weber, Edith Lavenz and Dorothy Jungen.
Mass of Christian Burial: will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2009 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Becker-Chapman American Legion Post #138 and V.F.W. Post 1623. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball with a Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the family.
