| | | Mabel I. Heerkes, age 89, of Waterloo, died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center of dementia.
Mabel Irene Heerkes was born April 4, 1920 in near Dumont, Franklin County, Iowa, the daughter of Elward G. and Zelda (Latimer) Heerkes.
She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Waterloo. She had been a resident at Ravenwood for the last 14 years.
Survivors include a brother, Ray E. (Louise) Heerkes of Hazelton; a brother-in-law, Edwin Myers of Evansdale; two nieces, Pat (Ken) Weber of Jesup and Rae Ann (Ron) Pedersen of Cedar Falls; two nephews, Mike (Julie) Heerkes of Porter, TX and Bob (Betsy) Myers of Perry, IA and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Edna Mowery and Ethel Myers.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2009 at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until the services on Friday at the Funeral Chapel.
