| | | Betty R. Mether, age 85, died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo due to complications of diabetes.
Betty Raye Mether was born October 6, 1924 in Waterloo, the daughter of Roy and Ethel (Parker) Bryant. She graduated from Waterloo West High School with the Class of 1942. Betty was united in marriage with Venice Louis Mether on November 18, 1945 at the First Church on the Nazarene in Waterloo. He preceded her in death on February 26, 2004.
Betty worked at Davidson’s Department Store in downtown Waterloo and later retired from Chamberlain Manufacturing after over 30 years of service in 1990. She was an active member of Cedar Valley Community Church and the Mended Hearts group at Allen Memorial Hospital. During World War II, Betty volunteered as a hospital candy striper. She enjoyed cooking and baking, flower gardening, reading and listening to old time southern gospel music.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Theresa) Mether of Hermitage, TN, and Robert (Julie) Mether of rural La Porte City; a daughter, Rhonda (Michael) Deeds of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Gabriel (Cassandra) Mether, Adrian Mether, Eliott Mether, Daniel (Gina) Mether and James Mether; a great grandson, Wyatt Cody Mether; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence (Judy) Mether of La Porte City and Lloyd (Virginia) Mether of Clinton, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Timothy Mether and a sister, Virginia Mether.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2009 at Cedar Valley Community Church with burial in Gresham Cemetery, rural Klinger, IA. Friends may call on Sunday, October 11, 2009 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Church.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
