Florence I. Messingham, age 76 of Waterloo, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Sunset Home in Denver, IA. She was born February 1, 1933 in Waterloo, the daughter of Jesse and Helen (Johnson) Burch. She married James Vaughn in Texas in 1950 and they later divorced in July 1959. She married Wendall Davis on May 12, 1960 in South Dakota. They later divorced in July 1975. Mrs. Messingham was a floor trainer at the J C Penney Store in Waterloo for 25 years, retiring in 1995. She also served as a volunteer helper at Jewett Elementary School in Waterloo. Survivors include five daughters, Sandy Vaughn of Cedar Falls; Linda Willer of Louisiana; Cheryl Wilson of Grundy Center, Lorene Nolan and Corene Duesenberg, both of Waterloo; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and a sister, Janice Semenchuk of Rockford, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; a son in infancy; a sister, Alice Bebee and a special friend, Don Messingham. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo. Private family burial will take place at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar Falls. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the family.
