  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

Hazel R. (Padget) Buehrer, (94), went to her Heavenly Home on October 17, 2009 at Friendship Village’s Lakeview Landing in Waterloo. Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, 3146 Kimball Ave., Waterloo, IA 50702 with visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday and also one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Survivors include her son, Dennis (Gisela) Padget of The Villages, FL and her daughter, Sue (David) Gates of Vinton, IA; grandchildren, Ehren (Trisha) Padget, Rita S. Guenther, Brian, Brett, Brock Gates, Karen Mantooth, and Michael Silloway; thirteen great grandchildren; one great, great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Robert E. Padget and L.J. Buehrer, two brothers and two sisters and her parents.

Hazel was born, August 7, 1915 in Raymond, IA the daughter of George and Ada Greenley Trautman. She graduated from East Waterloo High in 1932. For many years she and Robert lived in Dewar where they had many friends. She loved her years as a grocery cashier at the Ditto, S&S, and A&P until retirement in 1986. Among her greatest joys in life were greeting her customers with her always ready smile and getting to know their families. Though she worked hard, she never seemed to tire thereby setting a keen example for those around her. She was a longtime member of Kimball United Methodist Church.

Hazel was a loving, gentle, wise mother, grandmother, and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She kept in touch with many people through phone calls and letters, serving as the primary connection for her extended family network. She had a way of putting people at ease and of considering their needs above her own. She had a grace and style that was matched only by her wisdom and compassion. She will be greatly missed by her family and many others.

Hazel’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to those at Friendship Village, especially those at Lakeview Landing, who cared for “Mom/Grandma” during her declining health. She considered them family as do we. They have been truly wonderful showing her the love and kindness she deserved.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Friendship Village.
