| | | Cora Mary “Corky” Fee, 85, of La Porte City, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Bright Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines. She was born November 28, 1923 in Aribba, CO the daughter of Daniel and Ethel Palmer Poorman. She graduated High School from the Iowa School for the Deaf in 1942. She married Glenn David Fee on September 26, 1942 in Vinton; he preceded her in death on October 1, 1989.
Corky worked at produce companies in Vinton and Newhall, IA. She moved with her family to Sioux City in 1955, then to Waterloo in 1956. There she was a Girl Scout Leader for eight years. The family moved to Urbandale in 1965. She went to work for Jensen Elementary School and taught midweek bible classes at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. After a move to La Porte City in 1977 Corky began working for Schoitz Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1987. She was a member of the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City and was the “Card Lady” for many years.
Survived by: two daughters, Linda (Jim) Bagenstos of La Porte City, Glenda (Mike) Eick of Ankeny; four grandchildren, Cynthia (Steve) Haas, Nicole (Ross) Schuchart, Daniel (Julie) Sutherland, Melissa Eick; two step grandchildren; six great grandchildren, Aaron, Veronica, Landon and Jordan Haas, London and Eden Schuchart; three step great grandchildren; one brother, Carey Poorman of Cedar Rapids and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: her parents; her husband and two brothers, Oda and Carl Poorman.
Services: will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the American Lutheran Church with burial in the West View Cemetery both in La Porte City. Visitation will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. at La Porte City Funeral Service and also one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the Bright Kavanagh Hospice Home in Des Moines (3000 Easton Blvd, Des Moines, IA 50317).
