Robert P. "Bob" Webber, 83, of Independence, formerly of La Porte City, died October 28, 2009 at the West Village Care Center in Independence of natural causes. He was born May 24, 1926 in Waterloo; the son of Walter and Esther Coffin Webber. He married Mildred Schwickerath on April 12, 1950 in Alta Vista.

Bob worked in Law Enforcement for La Porte City and Black Hawk County for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1988 as Lieutenant for the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post #207 and VFW Post 3983 and a member of the Sheriff’s Association.

Survived by: his wife Mildred of Independence; two sons, Steve (Ann) Webber of Waterloo, Tim (Deanna) Webber of Iowa City; three daughters, Deb (Lonnie) Phillips of Muscatine, Patty Keegan of Park View, Mary Beth (Brian) Brinkema of Independence; six grandchildren, Jeff (Teresa) Phillips, Mitch (Kya) Keegan, Kendall Keegan, Cassie and Emma Webber, Blake Brinkema; one great granddaughter, Brynnley Keegan; one brother, David Webber; two sisters, Mary (Don) Jordan of Readlyn, Carolyn Woodworth of Toledo and a sister-in-law, Shirley Webber of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; one daughter, Rebecca Webber; one brother, James and a sister, Dorothy.

Mass of Christian Burial: will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial in the West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Military Rites will be conducted by the La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post #207 and the VFW Post 3983. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. at La Porte City Funeral Service with a Rosary at 3:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour before the service at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the American Cancer Society or La Porte City Fire and Rescue.
