Lynn H. Steffens, 83, of La Porte City, died Friday, October 30, 2009 at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart from complications of Alzheimer’s. He was born December 27, 1925 in Newell the son of Harold and Emma Rawley Steffens. He married Mary Robinson on August 11, 1961 in Osage. He worked for John Deere from 27 years, retiring in 1987. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Black Hawk County Gem and Mineral Society and an avid Rock Hound. Survived by: his wife Mary of La Porte City; two sons, Jeffrey Steffens of Waterloo, Ted (Rachele) Steffens of La Porte City; four grandchildren, Derek, Eric, Conner and Olivia and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Max and Royce Steffens and five sisters, Irene Norris, Ruby Sauter, Buenetta Reiter, Eva Montieth and Darlene Steffens. Memorial Service: will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the American Lutheran Church in La Porte City with inurnment in the West View Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post #207 and VFW Post 3983. Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the family.
