| | | Evelyn Joyce Kearns, 73, of La Porte City, died Monday, November 2, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center, following a short illness. She was born September 14, 1936, in Waterloo the daughter of Harold Leedy and Ruth Rosella Vaughn Scott. She married Lee “Red” Kearns on September 26, 1954 in La Porte City.
She made a home for her children and husband until going to work in 1961 at Vinton Packing. She also worked as a care giver at the Williams Rest Home in La Porte City and Sunny Crest Nursing Home in Dysart until September of 1992. She enjoyed embroidering, puzzle books, bingo with her sisters, but most of all spending time with her family.
Survived by: her husband, Lee “Red” Kearns of La Porte City; one son, Howard Kearns of La Porte City; four daughters, Vickey (Roger) Jones of Independence, Cindy (Michael) Bruce of La Porte City, Becky (David Burke) Kearns of Mount Auburn, Bonnie Kearns of Independence; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; two great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one brother, Carl (Beverly) Scott of Dysart and six sisters, Barbara (Dan) Morris of Evansdale, Mary (Harold) Steen of Waterloo, Janet (Calvin) Dunegan of Waterloo, Carol Marquard of Waterloo, Betty Scott of Waterloo and Patricia Howard of Evansdale.
Preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers, Jimmy Scott in infancy, Donald Scott and one sister, Kathryn Smith.
Services: will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 6, 2009 at Heartland Community Church with burial in the West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Heartland Community Church and also one hour before the service.
Memorials: may be directed to the family.
