| | | Elbert Hutchins, 76, of Waterloo, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Allen Hospital of natural causes.
He was born February 21, 1933 in Colquitt, Georgia, son of James Allen and Savannah Bush Hutchins, Sr. He married Mae West in 1960 in Waterloo, and they were later divorced. He then married Cynthia Martin in 1969. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Hutchins was employed by Sears Roebuck & Company for many years, retiring in 1988. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Marines.
Survivors include one son, Elbert James Hutchins of Aurora, Colorado; five daughters, Mechelle (Lloyd) Sheffie of Aurora, Colorado, Lisa Hutchins of Phoenix, Arizona, Shelia Wilder of Waterloo, Carol L. Turner of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Carla D. Turner of Waterloo; two brothers, James (Dorothy) Hutchins, Jr. of Waterloo, and Watson (Beverly) Hutchins of Moline, Illinois; three sisters, Malinda Burnside of Laveen, Arizona, Mary Willingham of Waterloo, and Canary Hutchins of Oviedo, Florida; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Oliver and Robert Hutchins; and one great granddaughter, Cerenity Sallis.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday at Ambassadors for Christ Church, with cremation to follow. Public visitation will be 11:00 to 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the church. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
