Leo Joseph Horgan, 68, Topeka, passed away Mon., March 19, 2012 at his home. Lee battled leukemia for nine years and for the last nine months suffered with the cancer, mesothelioma. He was born Oct. 15, 1943, in Wheaton KS, the son of Martin and Teresa Bennett Horgan. He graduated from Frankfort High and went on to serve our country in the U.S. Navy for six years. He served on the USS Coral Sea and in Vietnam. On July 7, 1971, Lee was united in marriage to Joyce Rush. She preceded him in death. He retired from Goodyear Tire after 34 years on the job. He was a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, the American Legion, Post 400 and VFW, 1650. Lee enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest enjoyment was his country music. He sang and played steel guitar in all the retirement homes and nursing homes as well as many other venues in and around Topeka as a member of the Ed Thompson Band and others.

Survivors include Lee’s significant other, Lois McDaniel and his faithful companion, his miniature Dachshund, Daisy; three step-sons, Sherman Herold (Nadine), Hays, Leonard Herold, Topeka, and Martin Herold (Mary), Topeka; six sisters, Mary Knight (Wayne), Topeka, Carmaleta Drum, Topeka, Bernadette Hecker, Topeka, Cheryl Randel (Eldon), Scranton, Rosie Mallon, Manhattan, and Ruby Lewis, Iola; one brother, Michael Horgan (Ruby), Celina TX; and many nieces, nephews and special family and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, June Knox.

Family will greet friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thurs. at Mother Teresa Church, 2014 NW 46th St., where a parish rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Fri. at the Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. (For those attending Lee’s services, he requested casual or KU attire.)

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Topeka Rescue Mission and Mother Teresa of Calcutta Church, sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Rd, Topeka KS 66614.
