John “Joe” Hanlon, 76, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012.

Joe was born Jan. 30, 1936, in Galveston TX, the son of Emmett and Jeanette (ter Haaf) Hanlon. The family moved to Topeka with the Santa Fe Railroad and Joe graduated from Hayden High School in 1954. On Nov. 29, 1958, Joe and Doris Jean Saut were married. They enjoyed over 53 years together. He served our country in the Army Reserves in the 109th General Hospital Unit. Joe retired from Santa Fe Railroad as a coach carpenter and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen. Joe restored classic wood Chris-Craft boats for over 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Hanlon, of the home; sisters, Rita Murphy, Maitland FL and Theresa Rief, Huntington Beach CA; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hanlon was cremated. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Family will greet friends one hour prior to Mass.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Helping Hands Humane Society, sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614.
