Kevin Michael Brennan - May 2, 1951 - October 6, 2012 Owner Kevin Michael Brennan, 61, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012 of lung cancer.
Kevin was born May 2, 1951, the son of David P. and Mary E. Hefner Brennan.
He was a life-long Topekan who attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Grade School and graduated from Hayden High in 1969. Kevin served in the US Army Reserve for six years.
Thirty-five years ago, Kevin and Mary Halpin were married. She survives.
In 1995, he was diagnosed with cancer and told that he would die. God chose otherwise and Kevin's doctors agreed that he had received a miracle.
He retired from Southwestern Bell in 1999 with 30 years of service. In 2001, Kevin fulfilled his long held dream, and honored his grandparents, Matthew and Mary Ellen Brennan, and his father's memory, by continuing the Brennan legacy of providing excellent funeral service to the Topeka area. The only Brennans in funeral service in Topeka are at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home. He and Mary and two of their children operate their business with the promise of a Brennan at every service.
Kevin was a parishioner of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council No. 534 and the James W. Gibbons Fourth Degree Assembly, the Topeka St. Patrick's Day Committee and the Topeka Cosmopolitan Club. Kevin was most appreciative of the additional 17 years granted to him by Almighty God and did his best to honor that gift.
Left to cherish Kevin's memory are his wife, Mary; daughter, Jennifer Brennan Emmert, and husband, Mike, Topeka; daughter, Kate Brennan Weber, and husband, Monty, Great Bend; son, K. Michael Brennan II, and wife, Catie, Olathe; son, Patrick Brennan, Lawrence; grandchildren, Michaela, Liz and Clare Emmert, Finley and Elliott Weber, and Declan Brennan; siblings, Patrick Brennan (Linda), Mary Beth Brennan (Randy Goldsmith), Kent Brennan, David Brennan, Jr. (Mary DeCoursey), Greg Brennan (Joy), and Kathy Whalen (Scott); brother-in-law, Denis Kenney; aunt, Leah Hefner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Nancy Kenney, on March 4, 2012 and niece, Bridget Kenney.
| Mary H. Brennan Owner I grew up in a large and loving family where my parents taught by example. They were generous, kind people who were always helping those in need. Vincent and Harriett Ridgway Halpin left a rich legacy of caring for others. I took that lesson to heart - my heart.
My eighteen years with Mary Kay Cosmetics focused on helping women feel better about themselves. I worked five years at Holy Name Church and Grade School and then two years as the secretary of Assumption Grade School. These years were most rewarding because of the children and their families whom I was privileged to serve. They are very dear to my heart.
Now, along with my husband, daughter and wonderfully dedicated co-workers, I am honored to help tend to the needs of those who have suffered the death of a loved one. We seek to ease the burden at the time of need as well as long after.
I am very proud of my husband, Kevin. He is a good and honorable man, wonderfully filling a need in the Topeka community.
I am a graduate of Hayden High School and a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Church.
| Jennifer Brennan-Emmert Funeral Director/Embalmer Jennifer is Manager and a licensed Funeral Director, Embalmer and Preneed Counselor.
Jenn graduated in 1996 from Kansas City Kansas Community College with a degree in Mortuary Science. While still in school she began working for Bowser-Johnson Funeral Chapel.
Jennifer and her husband Mike have 3 beautiful daughters, Michaela, Elizabeth, and Clare. They are active members of Mater Dei Church.
"I want people to understand that we care about our families and that we can help. We give our families compassion and support. We also give them our time."
| Debbie Bach Administrative Assistant I joined the Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home in March of 2011 as an Administrative Assistant. I enjoy helping the staff as they work with the families and am proud to be a part of this very caring family. Prior to joining the funeral home, I worked at Hill’s Pet Nutrition, retiring after 23 years. My husband Bob and I have lived in Topeka our entire lives. We have one daughter, Bobbi, a grandson, Ty and our son-in-law, Travis Shinn. I enjoy motorcycling, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
