Negaunee dateline
Warren James Williams, age 87, of 501 E. Water St., Negaunee, died at 12:20 AM on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans where he had resided since Aug. 5, 2008.
Jim was born April 23, 1921 in Dollar Bay where he lived as a child before moving to Big Bay. He was a graduate of Marquette Graveraet High School, Class of 1941. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and on Normandy Beach and earned 4 bronze battle stars. Following his service to his country he worked for CCI at the Mather B Mine, the Pioneer Pellet Plant, and the Empire Mine retiring as a shift foreman in 1983 with over 38 years with the company.
Mr. Williams was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee. He was a Life Member of the V.A. Romo Post #3165 V.F.W., Negaunee and was a former member of the Marquette Moose Lodge. He played for the V.F.W. in the Negaunee Social Cribbage League. In his younger years he played a lot of softball, hunted and loved to go to his camp on Horseshoe Lake.
Surviving are his daughter, Kathleen (Doug) Palomaki of Negaunee, 3 grandchildren: James Palomaki of Maryland, William (Lisa) Palomaki of Sobieski, WI, Deborah (Anthony) Towslee of DePere, WI, 4 great grandchildren: Ty Palomaki, Hunter Towslee, Sydney & Samantha Palomaki, 2 sisters: Alice Kimber of Marquette, Shirley Bubnich of Sparta, WI, numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Toini (Pynnonen) in 2005, a brother, Charles Williams and a sister Lorraine ‘Rachel’ Isham.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Negaunee with Rev. Peggy Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery.
The family will greet relatives & friends from 1:00 AM until the time of service at 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
