Ruby M. Fosterling, 99, of 20 South Seass Drive, Gwinn, died at 8:15 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Norlite Nursing Center where she had been a resident since October 9, 2009.
Ruby was born March 7, 1910 on the family farm in Schaffer, MI , the eldest child of Louis and Virginia (Gauthier) Duford. At a young age Ruby and her family moved to Iron Mountain, where Ruby graduated from high school. She married Clinton Fosterling in Rochester, MN and together they raised their son Craig. Ruby was very successful in the logging business, as a tavern owner and as a purchasing agent for Sawyer & Stohl Logging Company.
Ruby was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Gwinn, the Altar Society, the church choir and had served as the church organist for many years.
Ruby is survived by her long time companion and best friend of 33 years, Mr. Ethore Suardini of Gwinn, granddaughter, Kim Fosterling, great-granddaughter, Anne Fosterling, both of St. Louis, MO, a sister, Viola Knapp of Phoenix, AZ, a daughter-in-law, Pam Fosterling, St. Louis, MO, several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her special extended family, Bruce and Kay Suardini, Urbana, IL, Gerry and Theresa Suardini, Gwinn, Josh and Mandy Suardini, Milford, MI, E.J. and Jake Suardini, Novi, MI, Catrina Suardini, Gwinn, Jeremy Suardini, Merrill, WI, and last but not least, a special baby boy who always brought light into her eyes and a smile to her face, Asher Suardini, Milford, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clinton Fosterling on Dec. 23, 1974, her son Craig Fosterling on May 16, 1998, and her brothers, Chester, Stafford, Woodrow, and Tommy Duford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00 PM on Monday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Gwinn, with Father Ronald Timock officiating. Burial will be in the Gwinn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: John Decker, Paul Roll, Axel Anderson, Josh, E.J., and Jake Suardini. Relatives and friends may call from 2:30 PM until the time of services at 4:00 PM in the Baraga Room of St. Anthony's Church on Monday.
