Ishpeming
Philomena T. ‘Mandy’ DeCaire, 88, of 898 Palms Ave., Ishpeming, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Bell Memorial Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack.
Mandy was born October 11, 1923 in Ishpeming to Joseph and Maria (LaCaria) Ombrello, attended Ishpeming schools and was licensed as a cosmetologist. Mandy married Melvin E. DeCaire on September 29, 1945 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Ishpeming. They were married for 61 years and 1 month. Mandy worked at her own cosmetology business until she and her husband moved to Williamston, MI in the 1950’s. She retired from Michigan State Univeristy and she and Melvin moved to Lakeland, FL in 1984.
Surviving is her sister, Rose Fleck of Ishpeming, her brother, Anthony (Bernice) Ombrello of Marquette, sisters-in-law: Beatrice Ombrello of Ishpeming and Eileen Trombley of Florida, brother-in-law, Raymond DeCaire of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Melvin in 2006, 5 brothers: Frank, Joseph, Vito, Dominic and Salvatore Ombrello, and one sister, Mary E. Tasson.
Mandy was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Ishpeming, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9th with Rev. Greg Heikkala officiating. Interment will take place in the Ishpeming Cemetery.
