Edward John Wolken was born January 11, 1908 to Charles and Josephine ( List ) Wolken in Secipio, Kansas. He lived all his younger years there Graduating from East Secipio School from the 8th grade in 1922. By the age of eighteen, he was going to Iowa every fall to pick corn. Later employment found him in Minnesota. On November 25, 1936 he was united in marriage to Mary Miller at Bartelsville, Oklahoma. After their marriage they lived in several communities in southern Minnesota until settling to their present home in Petersburg, Minnesota just south of Jackson in 1970. From 1971 until 1982, they were the custodians for the Church of the Good Shepherd in Jackson. After Mary’s death on September 13, 1999, Ed moved to Alpha, Minnesota in a small apartment. Since November 11, 2007, he has been a resident of the Jackson Good Samaritan Center. Ed was a member of the Oratory of St. Alphonsus Liguori-Alpha, Minnesota. In his earlier years, Ed enjoyed gardening and working with wood.

Edward was called to his final rest on the evening of April 10, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Jackson, Minnesota at the age of one hundred years and three months.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth Wolken and wife, Betty, of rural Jackson, Minnesota; four grandchildren; Kim Wolken Sommerland and husband, Kevin, of Cottege Grove, Minnesota, Cheryl Renslow and husband, Brian, of Columbia Heights, Minnesota, Patricia Brooks and husband, Troy, of Rapid City, South Dakota and Christopher Wolken of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; two great-granddaughters, Taylor Elizabeth Sommerland and Brenna Ruth Sommerland; two brothers, Dennis Wolken of Garnett, Kansas and Herman Wolken and wife, Clarabelle, of Las Vegas, Nevada; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Wolken; children, Robert, Teresa, John Wolken; adopted daughter, Barbara Wolken Meyer; granddaughter, Jodi Meyer; brothers, Greg, Leonard, Arnie, Hubert, Nick, Martin, Luke and Gilbert Wolken; sisters, Mary, Elizabeth, Hilda and an infant, Martha; and other relatives.

Interment will be in the Good Shepherd Cemetery in Jackson, Minnesota.
