Rose Amelia Windschitl was born March 26, 1920 to Martin and Antonia (Joerg) Windschitl at Comfrey, Minnesota. She attended St. Paul Catholic School, graduating from Comfrey High School. Rose then attended Mankato School of Cosmotology and later worked in the Comfrey and Madelia area. On November 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Albert “Abe” Hodapp in Comfrey. After their marriage they made their home in Madelia. In 1949 they moved to Sherburn where they purchased the Super Value Grocery Store. Abe died on April 30, 1963. Since 1969, Rose was employed at the Sherburn Elementary School until her retirement. Rose later made her home at Temperance Lake Ridge in Sherburn, Goldfinch-Roxanne House in Fairmont and recently at the Trimont Health Care Center where she received tender loving care. She was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn, it’s C.C.W. and taught Religon. Rose also belonged to Winona Council of Catholic Women where she at one time held various offices. She greatly enjoyed playing cards, golfing, sewing, reading and working in her flower garden. Rose also served a board member for Fairmont Area Concert Association for many years.

Rose died on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2008 at Trimont Health Care Center in Trimont, Minnesota at the age of eighty-eight years.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children, Ronald Hodapp and wife, Em, of Libbertyville, Illinois, Ann MacPhail and husband, Stuart, of Bloomington, Minnesota and Laura Kramer and husband, Tom, of Trimont, Minnesota; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Ermin Windschill and wife, Jean, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; sister, Marion Jereb and husband, Ed, of Yreka, California; sister-in-law, Betty Windschill of St. James, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Wilford Windschitl, Dr. Robert Windschill and other relatives.


Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Madelia, Minnesota.
