Myron August Henry Ross was born January 5, 1931 to Arthur and Gladys (Kuehl) Ross in Litchfield, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew Evangelical and Reformed Church of Forest City, MN. He graduated from Litchfield High School and married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Harmes, on July 31, 1948. Together they had four children. They began their life together in South Dakota and Nebraska, coming back to Litchfield and then on to Kansas before Myron started working for a dredging company that took his family to the eastern states of Georgia, Connecticut, Trenton, N.J. and Long Island, N.Y. Eventually, the family moved back to Minnesota, living in Savage, where he worked for Ziegler out of Bloomington. He was transferred to Marshall as the field manager for Ziegler and then later moved back to the cities to continue his work for Ziegler, making their home in Lakeville until his retirement in 1993. During this time, he and Joyce enjoyed taking in Gopher basketball games with Joyce’s cousin, Marlene, and her husband, Erv. They bought some land by Pine City, MN and often spent their weekends and vacations there. Their three granddaughters, from the cities, would often go and stay with them. He enjoyed pulling them around in the wagon with his lawn tractor. After his retirement, he and Joyce made Pine City their home. They would spend the winters in Lake Havasu, AZ, enjoying the time with relatives and friends.

Myron died on Friday evening, October 17, 2008 at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont, Minnesota at the age of seventy-seven years after a courageous long term battle with Heart Disease and a short struggle with terminal cancer.

Myron enjoyed his sports, playing football, basketball, baseball, and track in high school. Later, he stayed active playing fast pitch softball (with brother, Boyd), bowling, golfing and loved to play cards and bingo. As a parent, he coached and cheered his own children on in their sporting events and didn’t miss many games both through their high school and college years. In 1999, after the death of his wife, Myron moved to Sherburn. He then followed his grandsons around to their football and basketball games and golf meets. After they graduated, he continued to be a loyal fan of the football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, and golf teams, making long road trips. His summers were spent following the legion baseball team and loved to be there for the Foxy’s amateur baseball team, to cheer them on. Several winters he would head to North Carolina and its warmer weather to spend time with his daughter and her family.

Myron was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Sherburn. He went on a couple of their bus trips, one to Branson, Missouri and the other to Door County, Wisconsin. He greatly enjoyed the fellowship and friendships he made on these trips. Myron made sure he was up and out the door as often as possible, to get to the Senior Dining Center, not only for lunch, but also for the friendships he had made and for a good game of cards.

Those left to cherish his memory is son, Jeff (Darla) Ross of Sherburn, grandsons, Jaycob Ross (Minneapolis) and Ryan Ross (Duluth); son, Gerry Ross of Burnsville, Cheryl Ross of Lakeville, granddaughters, Jaimi Ross (Apple Valley), Cati Ross (Lakeville), and Sarah Ross (Lakeville); daughter, Melissa (David) Whitfield of Castle Hayne, North Carolina, granddaughter, Elizabeth (Justen) Hopkins of Rocky Point, N.C.; and a special treasure is Myron’s great granddaughter, Hailie Joy Hopkins (Rocky Point). Myron is also survived by his sister, Bernice (Norb) Asfeld, brother, Norman Ross, brother-in-law, Dick Pehle and sister-in-law, Sheila Ross. He is remembered by Jessica and Chris Clayes and family and Christopher and Tina Robinson and family and many nieces and nephews.

Myron was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; son, Michael; parents; brother, Boyd Ross; sister, Maxine Pehle; sister-in-law, Jane Ross; and brother-in-law, Neil Anderson.

Inurnment will be in Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield, Minnesota at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2008.
